Association of
American Educators

AAE is a national professional association and is incorporated as a non-profit, nonpartisan professional association. It is open to any employee of an educational entity. Since there is not an alternative independent association in every state, AAE was established to meet the needs of educators who hold views differing with the unions' officially endorsed position. AAE's stated purpose is:
..to encourage and empower teachers who embrace similar views of education in America and who subscribe to the idea that
education should aim to improve a young person's character as well as his or her intellect.
AAE boldly declares that the "values neutral" teaching experiment has been a monumental failure that has led to much of the public's negative opinion of the profession. AAE believes our schools can and should stress academics while at the same time integrating character education and citizenship. We are working to regain the respect and esteem our nation's teachers deserve. AAE publishes Education Matters , a monthly newsletter.
AAE is not allied with any political party. It represents members in Washington, D. C. and is in favor of local control of education, greater parental participation, and higher standards for students and teachers. AAE believes that public education will be improved if we:
- believe all parents would want their children to learn integrity, cooperation, compassion, loyalty, diligence, self-discipline, respect for the law, respect for human life, and respect for self as they develop their intellects;
- always remember that educator's first duty is to the child;
- have schools free from strikes or any other work stoppage tactics or coercive threats;
- are free from all forms of compulsory membership and are not forced to join or otherwise pay dues or fees to a labor union in order to teach. At the present time there are 29 states that require membership in the union in order to be a teacher in a public school.
- have administrators, instructional services and curriculum, are accountable to parents, citizens, and tax payers of the local communities they serve.
- address national issues and keep members informed on key issues in education.
