KAPE Philosophy, Mission & Goals
Kentucky Association of Professional Educators Beliefs
Professional Educators believe:
- The welfare of students must be placed above all other considerations. Teacher and student needs must be balanced to provide the best education possible.
- We must encourage respect for our profession through the highest standards of personal and professional ethics.
- A climate of cooperation and mutual respect must be fostered among those responsible for the successful operation of schools: parents, students, educators, administrators, school board members, legislators, and business leaders.
- Educators should be free from all forms of compulsory membership and endorsements. Emphasis should be on educational issues not partisan politics and social issues.
- Schools should stress academic skills while integrating character, citizenship, and traditions.
- All school personnel should accept personal responsibility for the quality of education provided to students.
- An educator's organization involvement should be restricted to classroom requirements, teacher certification, and compensation issues.
- As an organization, KAPE does not participate in the campaign of any candidate or political party but, KAPE strongly reminds its members of their citizenship rights and responsibilities in our democracy. Every educator should be actively involved in the campaign or political process of their choice.
Mission and Goals
Mission:
As we move into the 21st Century, KAPE will continue working with its members to meet education challenges. This Website will allow us to communicate at all times with our membership and allow each of our members to easily access solid research and up-to-the-minute information. We will continue to promote "Kids Are Our Business - Our Only Business."
The goals of Kentucky Association of Professional Educators are:
- Professionalism includes KAPE educators accepting personal responsibility for the quality of education they provide to their students. Members use language, dress, and manners to serve as a model for students as they mature.
- The public schools belong to the public, not any employee or organization.
- School boards should be able to receive input and ideas from all employees. We do not accept the industrial monopoly bargaining procedure where a small group discusses its concerns.
- We respect educators' rights to join the organization they choose and we expect this same respect from other organizations toward our rights.
- Professional dues are used only to further the organization's professional and educational goals. We do not use our member's dues to take sides on controversial political and social issues. Each member can contribute to whatever political party or special interest group that best represents that member's philosophy.
- In carrying out these commitments, we must oppose the agency shop, exclusive recognition, binding arbitration, strikes, and the other procedures of industrial collective bargaining.
