Watkins (pictured far left) and Justin Akers, Counselor at Betsey Lane High School (pictured second from the right)  join KAPE in presenting this award annually to an excellent superintendent who exemplifies great leadership.  This year’s recipient is Floyd County Superintendent, Danny Adkins, (pictured second from the left). Mr. Adkins is well deserving of this award and was selected from a pool of highly qualified nominees for his strong leadership skills, as an administrator. Congratulations, Mr. Danny Adkins!

In 2019 KAPE's Board of Directors awarded their first Excellence in Leadership Awards.  Principal Brian Bond of Laurel County was the first recipient of the principal's award.  He has served as principal of Hunter Hills Elementary for over 10 years.  In early fall of 2019, just a few months after receiving the award, Mr. Bond's son, Landon, died tragically.  He was a track and field athlete attending Berea College whose life was cut short unexpectedly. He was going to be a fourth generation educator.

KAPE's Board of Directors, (board president, Doug Wilson pictured far left), along with Mr. Bond (pictured second from the left) and Landon's mother, Brooke Deaton, (pictured far right),  join KAPE in presenting this award annually to an excellent principal in memory of their son.  This year’s recipient is Jonathan Defevers, (pictured second from the right). He is principal at Lone Jack School Center in Bell County.  Jonathan is well deserving of this award and was selected from a pool of highly qualified nominees for his strong leadership skills, as an administrator. He is married to Tiffany Helton Defevers and they have one daughter, Eden. Congratulations, Jonathan!
